FREEPORT, California — People planning a boating trip on the Sacramento River should distinguish between a marina listing and a public boat-launch ramp. The California State Parks boating-facilities directory lists Freeport Marina as a public-access marina but does not classify it as a launch ramp in the same way it classifies nearby facilities such as Garcia Bend Park Launch Ramp.

What the state directory can tell you

In the state’s Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta and Sacramento River listings, Freeport Marina appears in the “Marina” category, with access marked “Public.” Garcia Bend Park appears in a different category that includes “Launch.” This difference matters to drivers towing a boat: public access at a marina does not necessarily guarantee a trailer ramp, free parking, available berths, fuel or same-day launch services.

Boaters should contact a facility directly to confirm whether it currently accepts visiting vessels, which services are available, whether fees apply and whether river levels or construction affect access. The state directory is useful for initial planning, not a real-time guarantee that a specific service is operating.

Plan for bridge conditions, too

Freeport Bridge is a moveable crossing, and Sacramento County publishes seasonal opening procedures. During November 2026, motorists also face posted weekday bridge repair closures. Waterway users should check both the marine-opening rules and current bridge conditions before departing. Fishing or shoreline visitors should verify permitted access points and follow posted rules instead of assuming private land is public.
