FREEPORT, Sacramento County — October 28, 2026. Drivers using the Freeport Bridge between Sacramento and Yolo counties should prepare for a month of weekday daytime closures. The Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SacDOT) plans to close the bridge from Monday, November 2, through Monday, November 30, 2026, while crews repair the bridge deck and joint armor.
Exact closure schedule
- Closure dates: November 2 through November 30, 2026.
- Days: Weekdays, Monday through Friday.
- Hours: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pacific.
- Evenings and weekends: The county plans to reopen the bridge each evening and keep it open Saturdays and Sundays.
The work schedule may change with weather, construction progress or unforeseen conditions. Drivers should follow posted signs and current county advisories rather than assume the schedule cannot change.
Which crossing is affected?
Freeport Bridge crosses the Sacramento River near Freeport, joining Freeport Boulevard/State Route 160 on the Sacramento County side with South River Road on the Yolo County side. Sacramento County says the bridge is one of the county’s six movable bridges, with ownership and maintenance shared equally between Sacramento and Yolo counties.
Detour choices
SacDOT says travelers may be directed south via Paintersville Bridge on State Route 160 or north through West Sacramento, depending on their origin and destination. Detours may substantially lengthen trips between Freeport, Clarksburg and neighboring river communities. The county has published an official detour map.
Why is the bridge being repaired?
The county describes the work as repairing the bridge’s joint armor and deck, with a project cost of approximately $300,000 from the Sacramento County Road Fund. It selected daylight work because the cooler season and early darkness complicate bridge repairs; completion within the November window also matters for the bridge’s operation during winter conditions.
People with time-sensitive medical, school, work or business trips should plan extra travel time. River users should consult current Coast Guard bridge notices for any separate restrictions affecting vessel passage; the roadway closure notice alone does not establish a navigation schedule.
